Botox for chronic migraines & headache

BOTOX® is the authorised chronic migraine treatment in adults. 15 headaches per month for 3 months, at least 8 days of which are characterised by nausea, sensitivity to light or sound, throbbing or lateralizing pain, or migraines lasting more than a few hours, is considered chronic migraine.

How does Botox work for migraines?

Botulinum toxin (Botox) is thought to enter tiny nerves, known as C-fibres, that carry pain from the head to the brain. This reduces the amount of chemicals released from nerve endings, interrupting the feedback pathways that perpetuate migraines and headaches.
