Acne Treatment and Acne Clinic in Leicester
Acne causes blackheads, whiteheads, red spots and sometimes deeper, painful lumps, usually on the face, jaw, chest and back. It is most common in teenagers, but many adults get it too, especially women with hormonal acne around the jaw and chin in their 20s, 30s and 40s.
At ND Skin Aesthetics in Wigston, acne treatment in Leicester always starts with an OBSERV 520x skin analysis. Acne is not one problem: blocked pores, active inflammation, oil, red marks and brown marks each need a different treatment. The scan shows which of these you have, so we treat what is really driving your breakouts instead of guessing.
We are a technology-led clinic, so your plan is not limited to one machine. It can combine ClearSkin PRO laser on the Alma Harmony XL PRO, HydraFacial on the HydraFacial Elite, The Perfect Peel, DYE-VL and ClearLift for marks after spots, Dermapen 4 microneedling, Dermalux LED and medical-grade skincare from ZO Skin Health and Obagi.
Looking for an acne clinic near me? We are on Bell Street in Wigston, about 10 minutes from Oadby and Leicester city centre, and we treat acne on every skin tone. If blackheads and large pores are your main concern, see enlarged pores and blackheads.
No acne treatment is an instant fix. Acne improves over a journey of treatments and daily skincare, and results vary from person to person.
Types of Acne: Which Do You Have?
Acne can include several types of spot. The type and severity help decide the right treatment, and whether you need to see your GP as well.

Blackheads and whiteheads
Blocked pores (comedones). Blackheads are open and dark at the surface; whiteheads are closed and skin-coloured. See pores and blackheads.
Red spots, pustules and cysts
Inflamed red bumps (papules) and spots with a white or yellow centre (pustules). Large, painful lumps deep under the skin (nodules and cystic acne) can scar, so see your GP or dermatologist as well as us.
Hormonal acne
Breakouts around the jaw, chin and lower face that flare around periods. Very common in adult women, and often leaves dark marks on brown skin.
Acne in men
Oily skin, enlarged pores and spots on the cheeks, jaw and back. Shaving over spots can make them sorer and leave marks.
Marks left behind
Brown or red marks after spots heal, especially on brown and Black skin. These are not scars and usually fade with the right treatment and SPF.
Acne scars
Dips, pits or raised areas left after deeper spots, often with lingering redness. See acne scar treatment.

What Causes Acne?
Acne starts when pores become blocked with oil and dead skin cells. Bacteria in the blocked pore then cause inflammation. Several things make this more likely.
Watch: Acne in 30 seconds. What it is, common causes and how we can help.
Hormones
Puberty, periods, pregnancy and conditions such as PCOS.
Excess oil
Oily skin makes blocked pores more likely.
Genetics
Acne often runs in families.
Skincare and makeup
Heavy, pore-blocking products can make it worse.
Stress and lifestyle
Stress, poor sleep and some medicines can trigger flares.
Start with an OBSERV 520x Skin Analysis
Why start with a skin analysis? Two people with spots can need completely different treatments. Guessing with shop-bought products and random facials is how people spend months and money without getting clearer. Our OBSERV 520x skin analysis photographs your skin in several light modes and shows what you cannot see in the mirror:
- UV and Wood’s light: fluorescence linked to acne bacteria, oil and blocked pores, including congestion that has not surfaced yet
- Redness view: active inflammation and the red marks spots leave behind
- Pigment view: brown marks after spots, and how deep they sit
- Texture view: pore size and any early acne scarring
Your therapist goes through the images with you, matches each finding to the right treatment and skincare, and repeats the scan as you go, so you can see your skin change rather than rely on the mirror. The analysis is normally £70 and currently £35, redeemable against treatment of £100 or more.

Acne Treatments: ClearSkin PRO Laser, HydraFacial, The Perfect Peel, DYE-VL and More
These are all the treatments we use for acne at ND Skin, what each one does and what it costs. They fall into three groups: calming active breakouts (ClearSkin PRO, Dermalux LED), clearing blocked pores (HydraFacial, peels) and fading the marks spots leave (DYE-VL, ClearLift, Dermapen 4, exosomes). Your OBSERV scan shows which groups you need, and most plans combine one or two clinic treatments with skincare.

Not sure which you need? That is exactly what the OBSERV skin analysis is for. Inflamed spots, blocked pores, red marks and brown marks often appear together, and the scan shows which treatment will make the biggest difference first.
No treatment is an instant fix; results build over a course and vary from person to person.

Acne Treatment: What to Expect
Acne improves gradually. Many people notice fewer breakouts and calmer skin within a few weeks, with bigger changes over a course of treatments and consistent skincare. Acne can flare again with hormones, stress or changes in routine, so a maintenance plan is part of the journey. We track progress with follow-up scans.
Consultation
We look at your skin and agree a plan.
A Course
Most plans involve several sessions a few weeks apart.
Skincare
Daily products to keep pores clear.
Maintenance
Top-ups help keep breakouts under control.
Results vary from person to person, depending on your skin, the concern being treated and your aftercare. Your therapist will explain what you can realistically expect at your consultation.
When to See Your GP First
Clinic treatments can help, but please see your GP or a dermatologist as well if:
- you have painful lumps, cysts or nodules
- your acne is leaving scars
- it is affecting your mood or confidence
- shop-bought products have not helped after a few months
- you have irregular periods, extra hair growth or other signs of a hormone problem
Acne medicines from your GP or dermatologist often work well alongside clinic treatments. Please tell us about any acne creams, gels or tablets you use, as some treatments need to wait until you have finished a course.
Your Acne Consultation
Every acne plan starts with a skin consultation with one of our qualified therapists. We look at your skin, ask about your medicines, hormones and skincare routine, and explain honestly which treatments may help and what is realistic.
The skin consultation is £35, redeemable against any treatment of £100 or more, and includes a patch test where needed. Appointments only. For a detailed map of your skin, add an OBSERV 520x skin analysis.
Your Acne Journey at ND Skin
Acne is treated over a journey, not in one visit. We find out what is driving your breakouts first, then treat, then track. This is how it works.
1. Consultation and Scan
We talk through your skin, routine, hormones and medicines, and an OBSERV scan shows inflammation, oil and congestion.
2. Your Plan
ClearSkin laser, HydraFacial, peels or LED, chosen for your type of acne, plus skincare.
3. Treatment and Skincare
A course of clinic sessions a few weeks apart, with daily skincare at home.
4. Track and Maintain
Follow-up scans compare your skin, then a maintenance plan helps keep breakouts under control.
Daily Habits That Help
- Cleanse twice a day with a gentle cleanser
- Use non-comedogenic (non pore-blocking) products
- Wear SPF daily, as some acne products make skin sun-sensitive
- Change pillowcases and clean your phone screen often
Things That Can Make It Worse
- Picking and squeezing spots
- Harsh scrubs and over-washing
- Heavy, oily makeup and hair products
- Sleeping in makeup

Acne FAQs
What is the best acne treatment?
It depends on your type of acne. Blackheads and congestion often respond well to HydraFacial and peels. Red, inflamed and hormonal acne may benefit from ClearSkin PRO laser and LED. Moderate or severe acne usually needs your GP or a dermatologist too. We recommend a plan after your consultation and OBSERV scan.
How much does acne treatment cost in Leicester?
At ND Skin in Wigston, ClearSkin PRO laser is £150 for the full face, or £450 for 3. HydraFacial starts at £80, with Deluxe at £120. The Perfect Peel is £250, or £600 for 3. Dermalux LED is £25 for 10 minutes or £40 for 20 minutes. The OBSERV skin analysis is £35 (usually £70), and the consultation is £35, redeemable against treatment of £100 or more.
Why do I need a skin analysis before acne treatment?
Because acne is usually a mix of blocked pores, inflammation, oil and marks, and each needs a different treatment. The OBSERV 520x scan shows which you have, including congestion that has not surfaced yet, so we choose treatments that fit instead of guessing. It also gives you before and after images to track progress. It is £35 (usually £70), redeemable against treatment of £100 or more.
What is ClearSkin PRO laser?
ClearSkin PRO is a non-ablative 1540nm laser on the Alma Harmony XL PRO, designed for active acne. It works below the surface on the oil glands linked to breakouts, with contact cooling. At ND Skin it costs from £45 for the chin, or £150 for the full face, with courses of 3 from £175.
How do you get rid of red marks after acne?
Red or purple marks after spots are caused by small blood vessels and can last for months. DYE-VL on the Alma Harmony XL PRO targets those vessels and can help them fade, alongside skincare and SPF. It is £150 for the full face, or £400 for 3.
How do you get rid of dark marks after spots?
Brown marks after spots (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation) are common on brown and Black skin. They usually fade with The Perfect Peel, ClearLift laser, Dermapen 4 microneedling, pigment-controlling skincare and daily SPF. Your OBSERV scan shows how deep they sit.
Is microneedling good for acne?
Dermapen 4 microneedling is good for the marks, texture and early scarring that acne leaves, once spots have calmed. We do not microneedle over active, inflamed acne. For active breakouts we use ClearSkin PRO, LED, HydraFacial or peels first.
Does laser work for acne?
ClearSkin PRO is a non-ablative 1540nm laser designed for active acne and oily skin. It works below the surface without wounding the skin. Most people need a course of 3 sessions, and it works best alongside good skincare. Results vary.
Does acne laser treatment hurt?
Most people describe ClearSkin as a warm sensation. The applicator has contact cooling to keep skin comfortable, and most people go back to their normal day straight afterwards.
Is HydraFacial good for acne?
HydraFacial is a good acne facial for blackheads, congestion, oily skin and mild breakouts, because it clears pores without squeezing. It is not used over very inflamed or cystic spots, where we start with laser, LED or your GP instead.
Do chemical peels help acne?
Yes, the right peel can help unclog pores, calm breakouts and fade the marks spots leave behind. The Perfect Peel is designed for all skin types and colours.
Does blue light help acne?
Blue LED light targets the bacteria linked to breakouts, and red light helps calm inflamed skin. Dermalux LED has no downtime and works best as a course alongside other treatment and skincare.
Do you treat hormonal acne?
Yes. Many of our acne clients are adult women with hormonal breakouts around the jaw and chin. Clinic treatment helps calm the skin, and we may suggest seeing your GP if your periods, hair growth or other symptoms suggest a hormone problem.
Do you treat adult acne?
Yes. Adult acne is very common, especially in women in their 20s, 30s and 40s. We treat it with the same scan-first approach, often combining ClearSkin laser, peels and skincare.
Can teenagers have acne treatment?
Yes, with a parent or guardian’s consent for under-18s. We will also suggest seeing a GP for moderate or severe acne.
How many sessions will I need?
Most people need a course of 3 clinic sessions a few weeks apart, plus daily skincare, then occasional maintenance. Your therapist will suggest a plan at your consultation.
Can I have treatment while using acne medicines?
Some treatments must wait while you use, or after you finish, certain acne medicines, especially acne tablets from a dermatologist, where the wait can be 6 months. Please tell us about any creams, gels or tablets you use.
Will the dark marks from my spots go?
Red and brown marks after spots are not scars, and they usually fade over time with peels, skincare and daily SPF. Our OBSERV scan shows how deep they sit. See dark marks after spots on our hyperpigmentation page.
Can you treat acne scars?
Yes. Once active acne is under control, we treat scarring with iPixel laser resurfacing, Morpheus8 and microneedling. See our acne scar treatment page.
Is it acne or rosacea?
They can look similar, but rosacea does not cause blackheads and is treated differently. Our OBSERV scan and consultation help tell them apart. See our rosacea treatment page if you mainly have redness and flushing.
Can acne be cured?
There is no permanent cure, but acne can usually be brought under control with the right treatments, skincare and habits, and many people grow out of it. It can flare again, so maintenance helps.
How much is a consultation?
The skin consultation is £35, redeemable against any treatment of £100 or more. The OBSERV 520x skin analysis is currently £35, usually £70.
