Teeth Grinding Treatment in Leicester

Do you wake up with an aching jaw, headaches around your temples or a partner telling you that you grind your teeth at night? Teeth grinding and jaw clenching, known as bruxism, are very common, and many people do it without realising.

At ND Skin Aesthetics in Wigston, Leicester, our in-house doctor, Dr Tayyab Bhatti, offers teeth grinding treatment using small injections into the masseter muscles, the strong chewing muscles at the angle of your jaw. Relaxing these muscles can reduce the force of clenching and grinding.

Every treatment starts with a doctor’s consultation to check the treatment is right for you. Results vary from person to person, and we will explain honestly what to expect.

How Injections for Teeth Grinding Work

The masseter muscles do most of the work when you clench and grind. When they are overactive, they can become strong and tense, putting pressure on your teeth and jaw.

Your doctor injects small amounts of a muscle-relaxing treatment into each masseter. This softens the strength of the muscle so it cannot clench as hard, while you can still talk, chew and smile normally. The effect builds over the following couple of weeks and wears off gradually, so repeat treatment is usually needed.

What to Expect After Treatment

The treatment works gradually. Your doctor will review how you respond and advise on timing for any repeat treatment.

Same Day

Return to normal activities straight away, with only mild tenderness.

First Weeks

The muscle gradually relaxes as the treatment takes effect.

Review

Your doctor can check your response and answer any questions.

Repeat Treatment

The effect wears off over time, so repeat sessions are usually needed.

Results vary from person to person. Injections do not repair teeth that are already worn or damaged, so we also recommend seeing your dentist, who may suggest a night guard to protect your teeth.

Frequently asked questions

What is bruxism?

Bruxism is the medical name for grinding or clenching your teeth. It can happen during the day, often without noticing, or at night while you sleep.

How do injections help teeth grinding?

Small injections relax the masseter muscles at the angle of your jaw. This reduces how hard they can clench and grind, while you can still talk, chew and smile normally.

Who carries out the treatment?

Every treatment is carried out by our in-house doctor, Dr Tayyab Bhatti, after a full consultation.

How much does it cost?

Women £300 and men £350. The doctor’s consultation is £35 and is redeemed against your treatment if you go ahead. Men usually need a higher dose because the jaw muscles are often stronger.

Does it hurt?

The injections use a very fine needle and take only a few minutes. Most people find it very manageable.

When will I notice a difference?

The effect builds gradually over the first couple of weeks. Results vary from person to person.

How long does it last?

The effect wears off gradually over time, so repeat treatment is usually needed. Your doctor will advise on timing based on how you respond.

Are there any side effects?

Mild tenderness, redness or small bruises at the injection points are common and usually settle within a few days. Some people notice their jaw feels a little weaker when chewing tough food at first. Your doctor will explain all possible side effects at your consultation.

Will it change the shape of my face?

Relaxing an enlarged masseter muscle can make the lower face look slightly slimmer over time. Your doctor will discuss this with you.

Do I still need to see my dentist?

Yes. Injections do not repair worn or damaged teeth. Your dentist can check your teeth and may recommend a night guard to protect them.

Who is not suitable?

Treatment is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for people with certain neuromuscular conditions. Your doctor will check your medical history first.

Where is your clinic?

We are at 32 Bell Street, Wigston, Leicester LE18 1AD, close to Oadby, Blaby and Leicester city centre.
